I sometimes just sat and thought of something and that all it took, I started to panic and my body started to get hot and sweaty.

So weird and very scary. It’s like whatever I thought of, trying to take control of my body and my mind. Like the other day, I was in the dentist office, after getting the shot, my body started to shake and I panic. I felt like I was going to die. I had to go to the bathroom and calmed myself down. Or sometimes even a simple thing like thinking about my breaking up and not being able to see my girlfriend anymore… But what would happen if I couldn’t calm myself down ? Is this condition related to not being fit (lack of endorphine)? Is this normal, I mean, does it happen to everyone? What is the best way to deal with it, because I don’t like to depend on medication if I can help it. Please help !

Jewel asked:

I’ve had asthma for approximately 14 years but it’s gradually getting worse as I get older and my attacks are more frequent. I’ve been put on additional preventative medicine but have always wondered about the difference between asthma and anxiety/panic attacks. I’m not sure if I experience the latter because my asthma does scare me on occasion. Is it normal to get scared during an attack? How can you tell if it’s just a little fear or full blown anxiety?

Things I have been experiencing lately are: wheezy cough, chest soreness and aches, breathlessness, and feeling as if weights are sitting on my chest. Sometimes I feel achey and weak all over. At times, I get frustrated when my asthma is out of control because it’s hard to breathe but I do not hyperventilate or experience a racing heart. I just have difficulty getting a breath and I become really achey, especially after I take my rescue inhaler.

What am I experiencing and is it typical for an asthma attack or panic attack?

I was in the shower thinking about some family stuff and I became short of breath, I also felt as if I would pass out, my heart was pounding and I felt sick.

I got out of the shower, dried off and got dressed then just sat on my bed for a while until the sickness and pounding heart stopped.

It took at least 25 mins for all this stuff to stop, I was doing some deep breathing while I sat down.

How do I know whether I had a panic attack or something else altogether, If it had just been the sickness or shortness of breath I wouldn’t have worried about it so much but when it is both of these together I instantly thought of the panic attack.

I am scared as I’ve been having more and more panic attacks, or maybe they are best called anxiety attacks, in the last few weeks.

Normally I would lay down, get a paper bag, and breath into it until I could breath calmly again. But afterwords, my chest would slightly hurt.I am now getting anxious that my anxiety attacks are affecting my heart in a permanent way.

Is chest pain one of the well known anxiety physical symptoms or should I be worried that I am developing some kind of heart problem. It is a bit surreal that the worry of problems that come about from anxiety attacks is causing me to have more anxiety. I am wondering if there is anyway to put a final stop to the round about of panic attacks and worry about the harm they are doing to my body.

Since I think it may be the use of a brown paper back as an anxiety treatment that is causing these problems my question is. Is there a way to calm myself down in a safer way?

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are a serious problem for far to many people and it is causing me a good deal of stress. If more people could recognize the physical symptoms that come with anxiety attacks it may be easier to get help.
